Sustainability

For humans to live sustainably, the Earth’s resources must be used at a rate at which they can be replenished. The first famous definition of sustainability, from the Brundtland Commission, is

“Meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs”

Development means using resources, so ideally this should be done sustainably. A classic definition of sustainable development is

“Ensuring a better quality of life for everyone, now and for generations to come.”

This is what Eco Doctor is about – sustainable development is a holistic concept, a strategy that requires the integration of economic growth, social equity, and environmental management. The integration of these three issues within an organisation is called the Triple Bottom Line. Sustainable development aims to make global society not just better off, but better altogether.
